This spectacular antique French clay gargoulette, c. Often the bottom third to half of the vessel would be buried in the soil to help keep it cool during the day, where it was used as a water source for workers going about their day in the hot sun. Beautiful emerald green glaze, lower body in rustic terra-cotta; graceful arched handle, large pouring spout at one side, and a smaller drinking spout at the other. In very good antique condition showing age appropriate wear and evidence of use. Lovely patina of age and use, nicely rustic character.
Very sound, with no hairline cracks or repairs. One small nick to the bottom rim from normal daily use over decades. One area of glaze loss to upper body as photographed. Otherwise just normal wear and tear on an item over 100 years old.
