Vtg Yellow Water Pitcher Monmouth Western Stoneware Pottery NO LABEL Ceramic USA
This very hard-to-find art deco Monmouth pitcher is in excellent pre-owned condition. The bright yellow glaze is in excellent shape, in such a cheerful, summery tone. It reminds me of a yellow tulip or a daffodil. The Monmouth mark, a maple leaf, was used until 1930. After 1930, a paper label was sometimes used, and even newer pieces are unmarked. The pitcher stands 6" tall and measures 8" across from spout to handle. Unfortunately, the paper label that would have originally been on the bottom is missing. You can, however, find information online on this particular piece. The original style number was #381. The Monmouth Pottery company was founded in 1892 in Monmouth, IL. And Monmouth became their'Artware Division. In Very Good to Excellent Pre-Owned Condition, free of chips, cracks, or crazing, though there are a few areas that have spots and / or scuffs. These are very easily removed with a magic eraser. Some like pieces to look like new, and some love the authentic aging and wear pieces acquire through the years. Its contradictory features somehow still complement each other, being a relatively large, geometric piece featuring angular, striking lines. Yet, the features' edges are not sharp- in fact they're rounded and smoothed resulting in an interesting and figural silhouette that's also soft and functional. It's finished in a cheerful yellow MATTE glaze- a perfect example again of vibrant restraint.
