This is a stunning and beautiful Tiffany & Co sterling silver water jug / pitcher which dates from circa 1866. Tiffany &Co started in 1837 so this is one of their relatively early pieces with full clear marks for their 550 Broadway New York address, having pattern number 1653 and order number 3276 and a gothic'M' for J. Moore one of the finest American silversmiths who worked closely with Tiffany from 1854 to 1869.
The design is elegant and simple with a very fine geometric pattern on the waist and neck with a beautiful shaped handle and stunning cast mounts. There is an engraved contemporary family crest of a vicious dog with a collar. And an engraved personal monogram below.
The silver is of a exceptional gauge weighing an impressive 941grams, it stands 22cm or 8 1/2 inches high and holds over 4 imperial pints comfortably. The condition is very good with a lovely patina, it is over 150 years old with little sign of use but there are a few tiny dings on the body hardly noticeable and difficult to photograph but mentioned for accuracy, the photos form part of the description. This would make a perfect addition to any silver collection, and a very elegant and usable piece of table silver.
