Handmade large milk or water jug with finely detailed repoussé decoration throughout. French late 18th or early 19th century.
Body has detailed scenes with farmers and cows on both sides and crest surrounded by rampant lions on front. Museum or collector's inventory number painted on bottom. Magnificent eye-catching piece for a collector or decorator.Lovely age patination and wear to brass and copper. Some of the deeper engraved lines have gone through so no longer water-tight. Green water oxidation to top rim, nail head that attached handle to base is broken off, but handle has always been totally and securely soldered to body.
