Lidded water pitcher hand turned in the 1960s by Charles Allen Hill of DORCHESTER POTTERY in the BLUEBERRY pattern. It measures 5.25" tall (not including lid) x 5" diameter. Dorchester Pottery Works was founded in 1895 by George Henderson (Charles' father-in-law) in Dorchester, MA, just outside of Boston. The family run company continued to produce pottery until 1979. Dorchester Pottery's line of distinctive gray and blue tableware was introduced in 1940. It was shaped on the potter's wheel and is called slipware with a Bristol glaze. While this pitcher is glazed, the lid was left unglazed. Both pieces are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is one spot on the lip of the pitcher where the glaze did not adhere, but it is not a chip. The underside of the lid also has some staining.
