This listing is for a mid-19th century Scottish jug/ pitcher made by the J & M P Bell & Co Ltd in pattern Jeddo between 1841 to 1880. Transfer-printed white with multi-coloured desing.

It is decorated with flowers, fruit and Chinoiserie decoration in wonderful rich colours with a gentle lustre finish. The exact same jug is on display as an example of Scottish pottery in the online museum South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture LTD, accession No 80.1377 (See Photo 6, 7). The South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture LTD is a recognised Scottish Charity.

Bell's Pottery was established by the Bell brothers in 1841, beside the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgo. They made transfer-printed white earthenware but soon expanded into china and parianware. Bell's produced a vast range of transfer printed china which became extremely popular with middle class families from the West of Scotland. Made in Scotland between 1841 to 1880. Measurements: 22 cm (8 11/16) tall. There is some crazing, light discolouration in spots and a small chip to one side base, but otherwise, this is in super condition for it age.
