Antique Qajar Persian Islamic Cobalt Blue Glass Rose Water Pitcher Jug

  

Antique late 19th to early 20th century Persian rose water pitcher carafe jug, is hand blown in white glass cased in cobalt blue and mould blown with swirling ribs separated by hobnails, also vertically ribbed neck and hand pulled rose water style beak spout. This gorgeous and evidently very rare piece, has an applied loop handle with nice outward curve to the teardrop basal attachment which fits the back of your hand perfectly.

It is hand decorated in gold gilding with foliate detailing and has a snapped pontil mark to the base showing it was hand blown. The pitcher is in good condition in that there are no chips, cracks, damage or repair. It does have a lot of wear and scratches to some of the exposed ribs around the body and to the base. This aggressive wear looks like some kind of ritual habitual use, probably a religious use (please see photos). This beautiful antique Qajar Persian carafe is a rare find for collectors of Islamic / Middle Eastern antiques.
