Antique La Pierre Sterling Overlay Water Pitcher Vintage Grape Pattern As Is

  
This elegant, late Victorian water pitcher was manufactured by the La Pierre Mfg Company which was incorporated in Newark, NJ in 1895. The glass liner (with a hob-star base) is 95% covered with a heavy sterling overlay in the very popular "Vintage Pattern" that appears to be very similar, if not identical to the pattern used by the Alvin Silver Company during the same period. Height is 6.25 inches. Weight is 3 pounds, 6 ounces.

Although it shows beautifully, it is for display only due to multiple internal cracks which are almost entirely obscured by the overlay when viewed from the exterior. The interior reveals a single vertical crack that begins near the upper lip and then branches into two legs that encircle the bottom and then merge on the back side into a single crack that extends to the upper rim adjacent to the handle.
