Antique FRENCH Confit CLAY GARGOULETTE/CRUCHE Water Pitcher, c. 1890-1920s

  

This type of clay pottery would have been used to hold water during the day for workers, who would bury the vessel bottom in the soil to keep the water cool. Beautifully rustic terra-cotta with deep, emerald green glaze on top. Arched top handle; larger pouring spout on one side, with a smaller drinking spout on the other. Superb patina, very good antique condition showing age appropriate wear and evidence of use. No cracks or repairs, just occasional area of lost glaze, or small nicks from many decades of use.
