Presented is a fine quality American coin silver water pitcher by William Forbes. This piece dates to circa 1840. The pitcher is done in an attractive vertically faceted style. The pitcher has beautifully hand-engraved designs of flowers and scrolls around the top and bottom, as well as on the handle. The front of the pitcher, underneath the spout, is engraved with a presentation reading Presented to The Holy Ghost Hospital by Dr.
John Discwell October 26, 1918. The interior of the pitcher is spotlessly clean, completely ready to use. This piece is in great overall condition. The presentation inscription is not original, and a prior monogram or inscription has been removed. The silver is still quite thick however. There are no splits, no leaks, no dents, and no repairs. This piece is hallmarked on the underside with the maker's mark for William Forbes as well as the retail mark of Ball, Tompkins & Black, successors to Marquand & Co. This piece stands approximately 9 inches tall. The pitcher has an approximate capacity of six cups, filled to the bottom of the spout. This piece weighs 866 grams or 30.3 regular ounces.
