19th-century American Aesthetic period silverplate insulated water pitcher on tilting stand. The pitcher is surmounted by an amazing finial of a horse jumping a fence.
I've seen a lot of nice figural silverplate but this is definitely one-of-a-kind. The pitcher is in typical Aesthetic style with multiple motifs in decoration.
In addition to the wonderful horse, the pitcher spout is supported by three ears of corn, and t. He pitcher and stand are ringed with beautiful Japanese-influenced decoration of cranes, flowers, foliage, and urns. These pitchers were in wide use before refrigeration.
The double wall construction helped keep drinks cold or hot. The pitcher rests in a handled stand that allows it to tilt. The stand has a place for a glass or goblet to be filled. Quadruple Plate Hard White Metal. Condition: The pitcher has 3 dents, one significant. If there was a goblet with the pitcher, it is no longer there. The handle of the stand has been reattached.
